Ft Huachuca Lodging Fort Huachuca was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1976. The site was selected in 1877 and in 1882 Camp Huachuca was re-designated as a fort. The fort was needed to counter the Chiricahua threat and help secure the Mexican border. Later the fort was used as a training facility during the World War Two and later closed in the late 1940’s. Fort Huachuca was reopened in 1967 and became the headquarters of the U.S. Army Strategic Communications Command. |
